'Under Milk Wood' is said to be Dylan
Thomas's best known work. It is his only play and contains over
sixty fantastic characters who display every emotion, dream and fantasy
in the course of a one day cycle. This classic modern pastoral is set in
a small Welsh seaside town call Llareggub where the colourful occupants
love, hate, gossip, dream, fantasise........ just like in any small
town....... like your town........
A collection
of powerful paintings by Tony Todd. With a style that has been
likened to that of Beryl Cook and Anthony Green R.A., Tony's insightful
interpretations of Dylan Thomas's enduring Welsh characters and
personalities colourfully capture on canvas the longing, desire,
venomous hatred and prim conformity that have become synonymous with the
small fictitious fishing village of Llareggub. The paintings burst
with the vibrant detail and mischievous humour characteristic of Tony's
work, which is perfectly matched with the sinuous dream-reality progress
of Dylan's town through its day.
Despite the lasting popularity of 'Under Milk Wood', Tony Todd's series of
paintings is one of only a very few interpretations that exist of the
work. It is almost certainly the largest and most vivid collection
available today. Viewers will be captivated when they come face to
face with the larger than life characters which they think they know so
well.
The publishing rights of the whole collection,
consisting of nineteen paintings, is handled entirely by
The Bridgeman Art Library .
